Every year around the holidays, I find myself thinking back to the early days of DX — before we had a yard full of dumpsters, before we knew if this thing would take off, and before we had a team that feels more like family.
Back then it was just an idea:
Could we build a company that made life a little easier for people?
Not a perfect company. Not the biggest company.
Just a really good one.
One that actually picks up the phone.
One that shows up when we say we will.
One that treats people like… well, people.
As we head into this season, that idea keeps coming back to me. Because the longer I do this, the more I believe it:
Better business really can create better lives.
And I’ve seen it — quietly, slowly, in the day-to-day moments that don’t make the highlight reel.
I think about the foreman who told me…
“You all made my life better today.”
It wasn’t a big job. Nothing special. We just did what we said we’d do. But the look on his face told me it meant something — maybe more than we realized.
That’s Better Business; Better Life in real time.
I think about our own crew, too.
The guys who show up early, hustle all day, and still find a way to laugh at the end of it.
If their workday feels lighter…
If their families get to see them a little less stressed at night…
If their effort feels valued…
That matters.
A lot.
A business should leave its people better than it found them.

And then I think about you.
You may not be a DX customer yet — and that’s completely okay.
If you’re reading this because you opened our holiday email — or because something led you to DX online — I’m genuinely grateful. Your time and attention mean more than you know, and I don’t treat them lightly.
The holidays tend to bring things into focus. They remind us that the things we pour ourselves into — the work we do, the companies we build, the families and friendships we hold close — only matter when they help someone step into the next season with more hope, more clarity, and more space to breathe.
That’s the point of all this for me.
If we can help lighten the load for even one person…
If something we do gives someone just a bit more clarity or momentum…
If DX plays even a small part in someone’s “better life”…
Then this whole journey is worth it.
So here’s what Better Business; Better Life means to me:
It’s not a slogan.
It’s not a marketing idea.
It’s not even about dumpsters.
It’s about people — the ones we serve, the ones we work alongside, and the ones we hope to partner with one day.
It’s about work that matters, done with integrity.
It’s about building something steady in a world that feels busy and unpredictable.
It’s about choosing to leave folks better than we found them — every time we can.
That’s my goal heading into this next year.
And whether we ever do business together or not, I hope you walk into the holidays with a sense of hope, rest, and pride for the work you do.
Thanks for being here.
